2018 Lilly Scholarship Recipient
KCSC-KHS Senior Awarded Lilly Endowment Scholarship
KHS Senior Elizabeth (Libby) McEntee is the recipient of the Starke County Community
Foundation 2018 Lilly Endowment Scholarship. She is the daughter of Pat and Connie
McEntee of Knox.
Chosen from 29 applicants, Libby will receive a four-year full tuition scholarship to any
Indiana college. She will also receive an annual stipend for payment of books and academic
fees. Libby plans to major in neuroscience at either Indiana University, Bloomington or at
The honors student is a member of National Honor Society, Science Club, and Speech
Team where she was a state qualifier in 2016 and first alternate to state in 2017. She also
placed first in the Discussion division this year at the Elkhart Central meet.
In addition, Libby is a two-year Freshman Mentor and a four-year varsity member of the KHS
softball team. The first baseman has served as captain of the team for the past two years.
She has been participating in a traveling softball league since she was 12-years- old. Lilly has
volunteered her time to tutor a first grader in math and reading fluency. She also worked full-
time at a local summer camp where she taught earth conservation to children ages 6-10.
As part of the selection process, applicants are scored on academic performance, honors
received, involvement in school activities, and involvement in both volunteer and paid work.
In addition, students write essays in the first and final rounds of the selection process. The
independent, non-profit corporation, Independent Colleges of Indiana, Inc., selects the
Libby said she is “really honored to be chosen” as a Lilly Scholar. She added, “I definitely
want to make the best of this award through college and through the rest of my life.”
The Knox Community School Corporation congratulates Lilly and her parents on this
prestigious award. “We are extremely proud of Libby and wish her all the best in the future,”
said Dr. Elizabeth Ratliff, KHS principal.
